The man accused of robbing a mail carrier in Nashua earlier
this week will remain in custody.
Baraka Janvier, 18, of Lowell, Massachusetts, was taken into
custody early Wednesday morning, police said.
A judge ordered Janvier to be held without bail until a
probable cause hearing in the case that is set for April 23.
Police said the mail carrier was robbed at gunpoint Tuesday
on Blacksmith Way in an incident that was caught on a home security camera.
The video shows two people approaching a mail carrier while
he was making a delivery to a home.
The victim told police he was held at gunpoint by a man who
demanded his postal keys, which provide access to mailboxes in the city of
Nashua. Police said that man was later identified as Janvier.
Police said postal keys have become a hot commodity among
thieves who have targeted mail carriers across the country.
Since he is resident
of Mass. I'm so totally sure that it was a legally registered firearm being
used by a licensed, upstanding choir boy who accidentally pointed it at the
postman. This is all a misunderstanding most likely.
